The best trails around College Station include:

Lake Somerville State Park and Trailway

At Lake Somerville State Park, hikers find twenty-six miles of interconnected trails and loops that allow for exploration of the shoreline. They pass scenic overlooks and cross through mature hickory and blackjack oak forests. After hiking, visitors can enjoy other activities such as fishing, boating, and paddling.

Sam Houston National Forest: Richards Loop Trail

The Sam Houston National Forest is one of the state's four national forests. It encompasses more than 163,000 acres and features archaeological evidence that dates back seven thousand years. The Richards Loop Trail spans 7.21 miles and takes about 3.5 hours to complete. The trail is rated moderate to difficult, and markers in the trees are color coded to the particular route that you are following.

Lone Star Hiking Trail

The Lone Star Hiking Trail is the longest continuous trail in Texas. It stretches 96 miles with an additional 32 miles of loops and trail extensions. As a predominately single track, it is not physically demanding in terms of elevation, and hikers may need to cross small country roads.

Washington on the Brazos Trail

Washington on the Brazos is a highly trafficked loop trail that leads hikers on a 2.8-mile adventure. It's suitable for all skill levels and is a great destination to spot wildlife.

Little Lake Creek Loop Trail

Best used from February through October, the Little Lake Creek Loop Trail spans 6.4 miles. It's surrounded by mature trees and colorful wildflowers and is fun for all athletic abilities.
