Beat the Heat in College Station's Best Museums

Let's be honest—sometimes we all need an escape from the summertime heat and rainstorms. If there aren't any movies in theaters you want to see or you don't feel like loafing around streaming TV, try checking out some of College Station's best museums.  If you think summer is for taking a break from academia, read on and you may be pleasantly surprised at what you may discover right here in town.

Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center

One of the best parts of living in Aggieland is the rich traditions we all share. Located right on campus (and less than a mile from our building), the Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center is a celebration of all things Aggie. The Center is a must visit to gain a new appreciation of Texas A&M's history and traditions with thousands of Aggie artifacts available to explore. Featured exhibits describe the history of the Corps of Cadets as well as Silver Taps, the Famous Fightin' Aggie Band, Bonfire, and, the tradition every Aggie shares, the 12th Man.

Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History

Just next door in Bryan, TX, the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History brings science and history to life. The museum provides access to real artifacts and natural history specimens that shaped Texas - and the world - as we know it today. The museum is currently featuring an exclusive exhibit on the extraordinary rocks and minerals that form the majestic building blocks of our planet. From the Grand Canyon to Hawaii's volcanoes, this exhibit will allow you to explore the fossils, tools and colorful crystals shaped from rocks around the world. The museum is also full of life, with butterfly exhibits, bee hives, and a discovery room with different species of live animals. And, of course, like any great natural history museum, there are dinosaur fossils to awe and inspire your imagination. Tyrannosaurus yes!

George Bush Presidential Library and Museum

Located in a beautiful building on the west side of campus, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is more than what you may think of as a library. It's a research institution and museum dedicated to American history and the life of the 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush. The Presidential Library features exhibits from President Bush's life that visualize American history and encapsulate the national experience during his life and times. This is a must visit for any history buff and provides an insightful look into one of only 45 people who have served as president of our country.

All of these museums and institutions are must visits during your time in College Station, and can provide a unique experience if you want to escape the summer weather. We'd love to share more about all our favorite places to visit in College Station.
