It was in 1981 when C&J Barbecue began in a gas station. Originally, the station's owners, Chip & Jo Manning, sold gas and beverages, and it wasn't long after opening that Chip put in a barbecue pit. He cooked twenty pounds of meat per day, and his sandwiches quickly became popular. In 1997, the couple converted the business into a deli-style barbecue restaurant, and three years later, they won the Readers' Choice Award for "Best Barbecue in the Brazos Valley." The brisket can be enjoyed with sides such as ranch potatoes and pinto beans.
J. Cody's Steaks and Barbecue
J. Cody's is known for both its juicy steaks and mouthwatering barbecue, setting it apart from other restaurants. The chefs use a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic, as well as a whole lot of mesquite. They feed the fire regularly throughout the day, and guests can order beef brisket at the counter before heading to the buffet to fill their plate with sides such as cornbread and French fries.
Nestled in the historic Northgate District, BBQ 13-0 boasts that it serves the most unique sandwiches in Texas. It has a four-star rating on Yelp as guests appreciate the friendly staff, large portions, and rustic atmosphere. The menu includes Chopped Bevo, which is a chopped brisket and potato chip sandwich served with barbecue sauce and sweet pickle mustard-mayo.
