Spend a Day at College Station's Lick Creek Park

Lick Creek Park is located just southeast of downtown College Station and Bryan and just northwest of Houston. This 500-acre park serves as a retreat from the traffic and crowds of the city and provides many outdoor activities such as five miles of trails and a nature center open to the public.

On the south end of the park is a winding creek, known as Alum or Lick Creek. There are several trails that run adjacent to the creek for a serene hike. Deer Run, Iron Bridge Trail, and Post Oak Trail all support hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Deer Run is the longest trail at nearly 2 miles long and runs from the Nature Center in the north to Pebble Creek Parkway in the southwest portion of the park. Raccoon Run and Yaupon Loop are slightly smaller but are only for pedestrians if you're looking for a more relaxed walk. There are also rest areas located intermittently along the trails should you need to take a small break or if you'd like to just relax and enjoy the sounds of nature.

The Lick Creek Nature Center was built in 2008 and offers many immersive opportunities for locals. The facility itself has classrooms, a meeting room, an amphitheater, plant and animal displays, and a monarch butterfly garden. There are several community outreach programs, as well. You can become a volunteer docent for the Nature Center and host tours, programs, and activities or you can take a hunting safety course for only $10. To learn more about the wildlife that lives in Texas, check out a guided nature tour or a Saturday exhibit, which features mammals, owls, birds, vegetation, and butterflies. These exhibits also change weekly for new and exciting information.

So whether you're looking for a serene walk in the forest or to learn more about the native species in Texas, the Lick Creek Park provides opportunities for everyone. Contact us to learn more about living in College Station.
